We, the people of the above electorate, would wish to have an assurance that our Elected Democratic Representative will abide by the following Basic Principles of Accountability and Transparency –

The Fitzgerald Principles

To act honourably and fairly and solely in the public interest.
To treat all citizens equally.
To tell the truth.
Not to mislead or deceive.
Not to withhold or obfuscate information to which voters are entitled.
Not to spend public money except for public benefit.
Not to use your position or information gained from your position for your benefit or the benefit of a family member, friend, political party or other related entity.

We, the democratically minded people of this Federal Electorate can see no reason why any person applying for the position of our delegate to the House of Representatives in the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia would not agree to uphold these Basic Principles. We can see no reason why any person applying for the position of our Democratic Representative would refuse to sign a copy.

For us to live our lives in accordance with democratic principles and process, we need to trust our representatives and to be sure that the system operates as we believe it should.

If you wish the privilege of representing us, if you wish to be paid out of the public purse then we will hold you, ……………………………………………….. accountable to the above principles. If you wish our vote then we wish your guarantee by way of your signature on this document.

A signed copy of this form will be displayed in all public places and at the places of polling within the above electorate from the time of signing and for the term of the Parliament enabled on that day of Election to the House of Representatives for the Federal Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia.

If your Prospective Representative won’t sign a copy of these Principles, then he or she Should Not be Selected as Your Representative to what we believe should be a Democratic Parliament. We believe that a refusal to sign these Principles is not in keeping with the processes we, the People of Australia, wish to see in operation in our Representative Assembly.

If you have a prospective representative you believe worthy of your trust, they will not only jump to sign this .. they will be damned proud of the fact too.
