Madam Lambie says, Lay off!
“When no limit to political authority is acknowledged, the people’s leaders, in a popular government, are not defenders of freedom, but aspiring tyrants.” – Jean Jacques Rousseau.
Lets give her a credit. She says she just couldn’t vote for the Govs neoliberalisation of Education. Said, no matter what, she has to support equal opportunity education.
She’s urged us also to lay off Sharkey, she’s had to put up with a whole lot of thuggery from the neoLibNats in the Holy House, and she’s probably done one sweet deal for her people. Ya (that’s us) just dont know what it’s like to be pushed and pulled and bullied and bribed by the neoLibNats. Don’t we? … Well, perhaps we don’t get the bribes.
What makes Madam Lambie think that only those who’ve had themselves elected, and are therefore permitted to make decisions for the rest of us, don’t know the extent of the inherent thuggery of the neoLibNats? Its THEM we should be blaming, she says, for the lack of humanity we’re inculcating in our children – not her with her single vote of balancing power.
Medical aid for our refugees, fair treatment, contact with the outside world … ? Not her … Them!
Darlin’ please …
Its all their fault. She didn’t invent this system where one vote is all thats needed to make draconian decisions for the entire population.
The problem is of course, not the taking of bribes, nor the tending to of a single community amongst the community of communities (that is after all her job. That’s what her community pays her to do!); the problem is that one single point can alter the futures of the community of communities … One single point. Like a penalty shootout in a soccer game. Thats it done. We win. Of course, I’m being flippant. Her community doesn’t pay her a cent, the community of communities does. And, the Holy House is supposed to be a house of debate where all the community representatives come to a consensus, and not a place of secret deals that will be paid from the pockets of all of us; where a win by a single corrupted point – debate unnecessary – is posed as a win for the commonwealth.
Ain’t it a shame that instead of each community paying their representative as they see fit, and then making them play a game where a 2/3 majority is the only way to makes the rules for all, we instead allow a playground bully to lay into some poor single girl behind the scoreboard until she gives in. What a way to enforce true character and to decide the future of someone elses children. That’s demockracy – thats why we have a parliament and a constitution to protect it – thats why they call us the Lucky Country!
Hooray for the rule by Fear of Law.
“One habitual ruse of the enemies of freedom and enlightenment is to affirm that their ignoble doctrine is universally adopted, that principles of which rest the dignity of the human race are abandoned by unanimous agreement, and that is it unfashionable and almost in bad taste to profess them.” – Benjamin Constant.
