O Democracy … Give me Strength!
“She tore their boats to splinters, but she gave them dreams to dream.”
GetUp Team Democracy … Seriously. Well, we’ve talked before regarding democratic process, but, all this work, and the money that GetUp spends on advocacy, is wasted – just thrown away. I sign all the petitions and bombard all my friends and family with the campaign materiel – true, I’ve only donated once, an unfortunate factor of being a Newstarter (call it what you will) and this government’s policy toward an undoubtably disputed moral disease – democracy. How many fellow Aussies are forced to live below the poverty line by draconian, and corrosive ‘neoliberal’ policies, yet they praise our collusion in their crimes against humanity.
Emailing Junior Frydenberg about Newstart, is as pointless as emailing Scott Morrison and asking to be included in one of his miracles. What do ya get? You get an automated response telling you that they don’t have to listen to you because they’re just too busy at the moment, and besides, the constitution says they don’t. That’s right. The source of the problem is in this Constitution. It allows Ministerial Discretion. It allows them to bypass parliamentary process when it won’t work for them. It says that they have a … Mandate – don’t laugh, not yet – to do as they wish with no regard to anyone else. Its an obcenity.
GetUp talking about saving our democracy is idiotic. We do not have a Democracy. We have no protection against Ministerial Discretion in our ancient constitution – we have no rights. On occasion they allow us a freedom, or two.
Nothing in our constitution is worth saving, and while we can only attempt to change it when they ALLOW us the attempt, and that can then only be done through a 2/3 majority – which I do believe is correct THEY MAY MAKE drastic and draconian alterations to our way of life through a single point majority. Of course, if this isn’t in their favour, they then resort to Ministerial Discretion. Ha! Ha ha ha ha, this we’re assured, is a fundamental of Demockracy.
We have … GetUp have, the technology to bypass this anti-democratic so called government. Use it. Go directly to the people. We did with the Marriage Equality debate. Do it with the Constitutional and Rights debate. Bypass them – they do not have to listen to us. But, you just watch what happens when we begin, and especially the kids, when we start to make a way to bypass anti-democratic governments and their undemocratic constitutions … Oh, yes, suddenly they’ll hear us!
We, the democratically minded, people of Australia, can hold an online and inclusive discussion and debate on a Bill of Rights that includes all Aussies and, we, can put in place a working democracy and write a new constitution.
This is where money that comes from us should be spent. Whether money given to GetUp or taken by this government. Nothing will change until we change it and we cannot change it through the current constitution and an undemocratic parliamentary process organised by an anti-democratic party.
These arse-holes will jump once we begin to bypass them and discuss things that matter and that WE WANT TO CHANGE.
“Jackass will jump and pray, let them pray let them pray.”
What’s the worst they can do? Arrest some of us? That’s good, ain’t it? Punish us for dissent? Shoot us, deport us, imprison us for speaking our minds, for caring about the future? For advocating true Democracy … That’s good, ain’t it?
Lets face it, this government likes to TELL US that we are a Democracy, so why not take them up on it and begin to advocate it … to encourage the kids to act like it is a democracy. Democracy isn’t a gift we wait for from a government. Its a real thing that’s expressed through the language we use and the actions we take. And, it ceases to exist when we cease to use it. Democracy isn’t a game of points.
Yes, they’ll come down hard and give all sorts of anti-democratic reasons, excuses, why we are not allowed to speak democracy and equity and an unauthorised future. They’ll say, now is not the time. Yes yes … let the Jackass bray! Let’s bypass them and have a proper debate that gives the kids what they want for a future – whether it suits us old sick fools or not.
I’m sick to death of hearing from the kids that Democracy doesn’t work … How would they know? They’ve never tried it. We only had a democracy in Australia in the 70s, 80s and 90s, because we used the language – we made Australia a democracy. The constitution didn’t give it to us. We, decided that’s how WE wanted it to be. This ancient inequitable and corrupt constitution allows unscrupulous parliamentarians to take it from us as they please. We have no protection. We need a Bill of Rights to protect us and our kids, from the sort of parliamentarians we’ve allowed to usurp common decency and Our Democracy.
Let’s start with the Fitzgerald Principles*. Bombard … not them, the kids with these principles. Let the kids see – those who will vote for the first time soon, hopefully, that the democracy this government speaks of is not anything like Democracy, that it is instead demockracy – and that they, the kids, do not have to stand for it.
Lets call them out – not by sending them emails and petitions that they don’t read, don’t have to read and habe no intention of acting upon, but by BYPASSING THEM. … We can have a Democracy, and debate openly the things that matter to us. What difference is this than the First Nations Conventions? Democracy in action. You, GetUp, have the technology – use it.
Still not entirely Locked-Out, Qld. The Lucky Country (may one of the King’s gracious miracles fall upon me!).
*Yes, its boring, I’ve talked about these principles previously. I know the full history of the principles, and the LNPs avoidance of them. The same sort of rubbish I received from my email to Junior Frydenberg … claptrap, obfuscation, a little slap in the face for my efforts. Get real GetUp get onto something that will make a difference – call the bastards out on their hypocrisy.
‘Everyone must take action, everyone understands that its a social crime not to act in times as grave as these, when evil forces of the past battle against the energies of tomorrow. Its necessary to decide if humanity is not going to take one step backwards, not going to fall once again into error, into slavery, perhaps for another century.’ – ‘J’accuse’ – Emile Zola.
