The Throwing-up of Multicoloured Constitutional Dwarfs.
So, another week passes in Dreamland, and as usual, we’ve had a couple of our representatives who’ve abused the right of Parliamentary privilege and then offered a hollow apology for the abuse … Shameful. What they’re supposed to do – were this a Democracy – is apologize to the people of Australia for their petty corruptions of Democracy, not to other members of the Holy House who, let’s face it, are laughing into each others laps at our expense again. What should happen, is that their constituents should remove them forthwith. Ah, but no, their contract is with the Parliament and not with the people, and the rotten Constitution upholds their right to continue to collect, and to hoard, the communities dosh for a few more years yet! Shameful.
On the ‘Lie of Legitimacy’ … Or, the ancient doctrine of Divine Right;
“The cold blooded fury and mercenary malice of these panders[ers] to mischief, can only be appeased by the prospect of lasting desolation. They rave, foam at the mouth, make frantic gestures at the name of peace. These high priests of Moloch [ministers] daily offer up their grim idol of the same nauseous banquet of abuse and lies … ” – William Hazlitt, … ” … Thus they defeat themselves. They are fond of abstruse reasoning and deep investigation in exact proportion to their incapacity for them – as eunuchs are amorous through impotence!” – William Hone. … “They sigh for a plot. Oh how they sigh! They are working and slaving and fretting and stewing; they are sweating all over, they are absolutely pining and dying for a plot!” – William Cobbettt, Political Register, December 1816.
… And who suffers? Well, who pays the bills?
Michael ‘Maffles’ McCormack – the King we have when Pistol Pete and the Dunce aren’t fighting for the job – this week urged the media not to cover any protests because these activists only crave “publicity … They absolutely want to have their Facebook and social media statuses updated by this sort of thing,” he told Old Suicide in an interview regarding the heavy handed treatment of protesters at a Corporate Confluence in Melbourne, on Tuesday .. Wednesday .. Thursday, and no doubt on Friday too … Chiming in wth old Bolthead in an neo- affirmation that ‘activism is Marxism’ … We should be so lucky …
All this at a time when our Free Speech is under attack by a supposedly democratic government, when we have Pistol Pete’s Bureau of Intimidation & Secrecy actively attempting to secure the hearts and minds of journalists through what they call the ‘immorality of releasing information’ that the government says, we the people have no need to know about … but, that, we, the people say; that we have a very great need to know about, and the fact that because we cannot exercise Democracy without knowing these things .. the government opens a gap between the people it says that it acts for, and it closes a gap between a democratically minded people and anti-democratic, but necessary, legislations. There are no such fears in the big wide world that a democratic people don’t need to know about. Maffles, at the same time warns the Free Press not to report dissenting views and maintains that, “Mining and resources provide a lot of money, particularly for the welfare payments that a lot of those young people are no doubt on.” … I suppose that’s a veiled threat to accredited journos to keep their toes back behind the line, and what a load of poppy-cock it is … like Gus Taylor and Numbers Robert, Maffles’ knowledge of just what the King’s government does do with our money is either deficient, in that he just hasn’t been bothered to find out, or, he’s willfully deceiving his people. One thing they do not do, is use it to provide fairer and better health, education and welfare services – I think he’ll find it goes into what is, euphemistically labelled a common pot, perhaps a fund for legitimate farmer’s futures, but before any of it is doled out it will be laundered through the pockets of supposedly democratically elected MPs. For the good of Australia!
Of course, its not just these corrupt federally elected representatives who have the whole democratic concept arse about face, we hear things like “no one has the gonads anymore to do something about public safety first!” – A rather impassioned rant from a local councillor about getting out and clearing the criminal killer sharks out of the Barrier Reef “before the tourism industry become a laughing stock to the world!”
This man doesn’t understand democracy either, but at least he doesn’t pretend to. He’s just an ignoramus who thinks, like Pistol Pete, that he can curtail natural rights through draconian action. I wonder, has he thought about putting up a sign out there on his reef – ‘Sharks! Thou Shalt not Bite Tourists Feet off!’ ? The sad thing here is that this man, this councillor, was probably educated when Australia was at least receiving a proper education – though what he was doing in class at the time God only knows … another neo-Nationalist, he’s not, of course, silly enough to really think a sign would work, he’s advocating a mass cull, a sort of final solution to the problems of Man’s Australian estate.
Australia is entering into very dangerous waters, ain’t it? It always happens when you have governments who set themselves above the people. The fundamental problem is that we BELIEVE that we live in a democracy and in fact, and perhaps this is the major cause of the problem, our government keeps TELLING US THAT WE LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY. Such lies.
This profession of democracy to a people who think they understand what Democracy is – whether a government means the same thing by Democracy as the people who pay for it being another question – creates potentially dangerous divisions. If a government has to suppress Civil and Human Rights in order to keep order; especially when it comes to a right to protest, to speak freely and to hold dissenting opinions, then that government is obviously not acting in the best interests of the people. Instead its pandering to the interests of a minority – that minority being an elitist money grubbing, ingnorant and protectionist, lordly few.
When a government in a Democracy sets the children against the status quo – as is happening in Australia today – when it tells the youth to wait until they grow up before judging what their interests are, when it tells them that whatever it appears the government is doing, the government is acting in their best interests … (But, whatever these interests the government is acting in are to be kept secret) … When a ruler tells his subjects to go on about their business because the design of the future has no concern for them, then that government becomes an illegal government; in a Democracy.
What really needs to happen here is, that a government, our rulers, need to say, ‘we don’t believe that Democracy can serve the interests of the people’ – it most certainly does not serve them. The have to remind us that Australia is not a constitutionally protected Democracy, because for too long we have been educated to believe, and lived as though, it is. We have forgotten ourselves, we have risen above our stations. Perhaps if our governments reminded us of this fact we would not have so much disruption in our day to day lives. Surely, it would be far better for a government to be open, and actually tell us this, than have us and our kids find out by engaging in what we believe is democratic process. Surely. Surely that will give us more domestic peace?
I write this thinking that is the 200 year anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre, and while, admittedly at that time, our forefathers knew they didn’t live under a Democracy is just goes to show how little our governments have changed when it comes to the overreaction to any form of mass criticism. Of course, one never wants to forget Eureka – in this Lucky Country – either.
And that’s the problem. A government will not have such a problem with its subjects if it can convince them that Democracy is not in their interests. But if a government professes that we live in a Democracy and then, at every twist and turn, curtails democratic rights and process then the people will be continually discontented. And if people are continually discontented – especially the youth – then they have every right to rebel against an oppressive and unaccountable government. History tells us this is so.
Go kids! But remember, you will need to make a Democracy if you wish to use democratic process to get things done.
