The King & Izzy.
I cannot see how I can write about this without bringing the issue of corruption into it. I cannot see a separation.
So Izzy, Israel Folau, is being hammered, now, from all sides. I too would have a small bone to pick with Izzy, however that bone is nothing compared to the huge rotting carcass I’d have to pick with the King. Since the bone is smaller than the carcass, lets pick at it first. My problem with Izzy is that he has earned an aweful lot of money doing the things he has wanted & wished to do – and there is no problem here – its the fact that he has attempted to get public funding for his shameful dismissal. That funding could be better used elsewhere, especially in this morally bankrupt age where we have such notions as ‘charity’s must from now on do the job that government is designed to do.’
Now, I fully support his right to express his views, and believe it or not, I actually support the Kings right to express his views too. I do not give either of them more or less rights than the other. The difference here is that the King is a deceitful man; his principles have way too much fluidity in them, and he plays to whichever crowd he desires applause from.
Again, the King has made a public statement saying that Izzy’s views are provocative and public. Izzy’s views while being ignorant were made public by others and not Izzy. These platforms that the whole world is living their lives on – Fake-Books, Twittering Machines etc etc – are the problem. A problem that the King also indulges in as it suits him. The King produces his own deceitful little publications for the benefit of his public reputation and the King is in a much more destructive position than Izzy could ever be in. The fact that Izzy quotes the Kings Bible is beside the point – well, its not entirely beside the point because it is after all the Kings Bible.
The King says things that are so much more provocative than even his Bible is. Izzy at least believes what he is saying. The King says things he does not believe in, he says them for a false and deceitful reputation. He says them in order to deceive those of us who may view the needs of the world, the future of its children and our consciences differently than him and his belief that his divine rights override ours. The King uses his fallacies as a club. Izzy is just ignorant.
Of course, the book that they both take their ignorance from is the King James Bible, and King James, the first, is famous for saying, “I am your King. I will go my own way. I desire your help in it!” This he said to, while not a democratically elected nor representative parliament, a parliament none the less, and more representative of the majority than the King. Saying this of course, that parliament had much in common with the current Australian one. Times have not changes all that much in the past 500 years. We are – the common man of social conscience – still fighting for our basics rights against a system that seeks to rule over, to oppress and persecute those of us who would not do as they are told to do just because. We fight against the belief in the divine machinations of self-interested power.
So, the King corrupts. He corrupts both the future and his Bible for his own petty self-interest. For the good of the country, he says. No King, for your own good. This King would take us into war in order to shore up his privileges. This King would have us – he would use our name to – torture other humans for his own petty interests. He would isolate us from his evils, for our own good! This king corrupts. Him and his Merry Little Men would destroy our democracy, as imperfect as it is; would destroy our humanity and our good character. This King corrupts.
Corruption is not just about stealing money, cash or the future .. if that is the only way one can value future, in cash. This King and his band of thieves do that anyway. But, their desire to corrupt us through their corruption of, and suppression of our ideals, our humanity, our democracy and our compassion are far more destructive to our future than any of their dissimulations. Such statements as his appointed minister’s are allowed to bombard us with at their discretion; that “Deportation is Fair and Just”, that “Our Moral compasses must point toward the Economy and not towards Humanity” are disgusting in themselves. The fact that they are directed toward an ignorant populace makes them criminal; they are designed to corrupt a complacent and fearful youth. A youth bubbled up in isolation, in false fear and petty greed.
So, Izzy and the King. One is ignorant and the other despicable. Its far better for all concerned to ‘know then thy enemy’; to be aware that such views are held; to be able to show our children that it takes all types of men* to build a future that is compatible with justice and compassion for all, inclusiveness, equity and equality in opportunity for all .. and not just a few that hold the clubs.
Fear and deceit are our true enemies. Not some stupid words from a book, no matter how good some may think it to be.
These views, these words that Izzy has read out are the same views that this King holds behind his closed doors – let’s not forget his plebiscite on Equality in Marriage Rights; how much he fought against it and his comments at that time, before he was a King. Before he felt he had a need to be all things to all men so as to make a reputation that is fallacy. Let’s not forget that he sends his children to schools that support Izzy’s Bible readings. He has every right to do this. He has the same right to voice his opinions as I do – though he would not give me these rights. What he does not have is a right to corrupt .. whether he believes it is Right or whether he believes that it is his right to do so.
“And because I am happy, & dance & sing,
They think they have done me no injury:
And are gone to praise God & his Priest & King
Who make up a heaven of our misery.” – William Blake.
