The Crimes of Neal Prakash

The Crimes of Neal Prakash

How we can distil the will of a whole country into the pettiness of one man and say ‘ it’s ours’ .. Or rather, let that one man say, ‘it’s yours!’?

Australia says ‘He does!’. Fiji says, ‘He doesn’t’. So, our Kings off with a bag of our cash to ensure .. or perhaps to convince Fiji that ‘he does!’. Don’t we have those new Jet Fighters yet? Surely we can put more pressure on a small Pacific Island like Fiji with a couple of fly-overs than by sending our idiot King across the sea? I suppose it is a nice place for a short holiday.

Were talking here of this one extremely dangerous young man – Neal Prakash – and the millions of bucks were now going to spend ensuring that he can get no recourse to our justice system. I must say that this is a big wrap for our Justice System. That a government would go to such extents to thwart it.

Now I don’t know his full story – no doubt it needs to be kept a secret – but I’m not prepared to take Pistol Pete’s version of it as the whole truth. In fact I’m not prepared to take anything Pete says as truth by any definition of the word. I understand that this Prakash went off to fight for something he believed in, by his own free will and that by all appearances he ended up on the losing side. Our god has overpowered his .. of course, it could never have ended any other way. Our god is all powerful good and his, all evil and ignorance. The battle of the Crusader and the Saracen.

Whatever the truth, its amazing that we can now put our entire collective free will together – Australia – and impose ourselves on another free country like Fiji. Another little Pacific Island to be bought and bullied.

I understand this Prakash is awaiting trial for his crimes in Turkey? Is this correct? (My airwaves have gone silent on the issue as we conjure up a Saudi Arabian au pair – which should not be a problem with Pistol Pete’s discretion).

Excuse my ignorance, but, if this man has committed crimes over there in Turkey* then surely he’ll be found guilty, convicted and take his punishment. What are we – Australia – so worried or afraid of? If he’s guilty then he will be gaoled or killed .. he’s probably been tortured already. And, if he’s innocent then I suppose we should hope that he’ll be set free .. shouldn’t we?

So then what are we so afraid of? That Turkey will deport him? Shocking! Deport him back here .. more shocking! If he’s innocent I doubt very much he’d want to come back here to Australia and straight back into torture on one of our Pacific Islands. Haven’t we, Australia, already created laws that would retrospectively crucify him for his sins back here in the lucky country? I’d think he’d be aware of that – more aware alas, of the King’s Laws here than most of us good people – us crusaders.

Thou rascal beadle, hold thy bloody hand!
Why dost thou lash that whore? Strip thy own back.
Thou hotly lusts to use her in that kind
For which thou whip’st her. The usurer hangs the cozener.
Through tattered clothes small vices do appear;
Robes and furred gowns hide all.
– Shakespeare. King Lear.

*Unlike Australia I dont believe that Turkey is a signatory of the UN Declaration of Human Rights .. I may be wrong. Lets just hope he gets at least the same degree of justice afforded to David Hicks.
