Complacency – the Australian Way of Life?

Complacency – the Australian Way of Life?

Its been said that our politicians are both ‘ignorant and ill-educated’. On this,  I’d like to say that Ive had a fair bit of experience with Australian politicians over the past 40 yrs. Being a child of the 20th Century Ive lived through the governments of Whitlam, Frazer, Hawke, Keating, Howard, Rudd, Gillard, Abbot and now Turnbull – most definitely they appear to becoming more deficient in education and more outwardly ignorant year by year. Meanwhile we youth of the 20th century who have been proud of our democracy, our freedom and our open mindedness, our equitable treatment of visitors and our visitors belief that we were all the things we believed and said that we were and that our lifestyle and country – our land and environment – are the envy of the world. Excuse the use of the word ‘envy’ it is a nasty little word, but then we are treating a nasty little subject here. Our bigotry and our complacency!

Now why will the great man …try to feel life? Because he sees that men will prompt him to betray himself, and there is a kind of agreement to draw him from his den. He will prick up his ears and gather himself together, and say: ‘I will remain my own.’ He gradually (and only gradually) comes to understand what a fearful decision it is. – Fred Nietzche
