Their Febrile Discretion

Their Febrile Discretion

An unconscionable inducement to fear is surely not a value becoming of an Australian. It could be considered to be bullying .. hell, it could be considered to be terrorism. What makes it worse is that it is our publically paid for, and supposedly democratically elected, government that is producing this unconscionable fear and division amongst the People of Australia.

As I think we all agree, government is at the very best .. the very best – a necessary evil. What it’s important to do is to alleviate the degree of evil a government is allowed to visit upon the people it works for. What is it about this Morrison government – with its fascist junior string pullers – that assumes that we, the People of Australia, are ripe for bullying and intimidation. What lead is it that we have given them, to operate purely in the self-interested protection of their ideology. Their defence of the ‘divine right to rule’ over an apparently stupid and criminal population – the neo-liberal ideology of Might is Right, so long as they have the might. What is it that these cretins fear from the ordinary folk of Australia?

They fear Democracy. They fear Humanitarian Value. They fear the loss of their Cash Cow.

I see that Our Don, that great friend of Australia, at least is able to put into words that which our leaders – his followers – can only scream in fearsome righteousness and cloud in ignorant obfuscation to us, the ordinary peace loving and inclusive People of Australia. Our Don hides in the power given to him by the US Constitution. Comments such as these, and I quote,

“Judges must not legislate security … and safety at the border, or anywhere else. They know nothing about it and are making our Country unsafe. Our great Law Enforcement professionals MUST BE ALLOWED TO DO THEIR JOB! If not there will be only bedlam, chaos, injury and death.” .. could here, in the lucky Country, be taken as proof of ‘values unbecoming of an Australian’.

Well much as I dislike the royalist Australian Constitution, at least on these points it offers us – ordinary Aussies – a bit of protection from such incoherent ignorant fear-mongering. Just a bit. Not much but some.

Our problem is this problem of ‘ministerial discretion’. I suppose it’s all well and good when you have a minister with something akin to the general morality of the country, but when we have ministers of the quality of the current king’s – who believe that their minds are the right minds and that the country will do as they say .. for our own good, or else; and that ministerial discretion overides democratic parliamentary process, when we have a constitution that can be bent all out of shape by the will of one excited ex-cop, when a government minister can propose and attempt to bully and intimidate through persecution – through the narrow, bigoted confines of his dirty febrile little mind – the minds and conscience of ordinary Aussie folk .. then it’s time to change this Constitution.

We can’t build a free, open and democratic Australia on the back of this ancient and archaic constitution. The Constitution allows this anti-democratic, morally bankrupt, discretionary degeneracy … Which, in turn unfortunately, allows morally bankrupt, undemocratic degenerates to exercise it – to induce fear where there should be none.

“Once annihilate the quackery of government, and the most homebred understanding might be strong enough to detect the artifices of the state juggler that would mislead him.” – William Godwin.
