Family Matters .. ?
“This is where I think in a real national family, the government puts their arm around them, the community puts their arm around them, and carries them through the rest of their life.” – Paul Keating.
Well, I’m an unabashed fan of old Paul … Here I take it, he’s talking about using the super-annuation of us that die before we get to use it, on those who hang about to the bitter end. What does happen to the super-annuation that isnt ‘claimed’ anyway? For some reason I’ve always thought it goes into that thing that was called the Future Fund – we don’t hear about that anymore, have we spent it already? Does it go to pay our representatives salaries or just into a big pot – consolidated revenues*, cash that doesn’t get allocated to the things we think it’s supposed to be used for .. Health Services tax, for instance, that doesn’t make its way back into our Health Services – cash that just disappears into the ether or on corporative giveaways?
Anyway, that’s where it should go isn’t it – the super, I mean- looking after the old and sick that for one reason or another didn’t manage to squirrel away enough lucre to bide them over til the end of time. I’m surprised that it doesn’t. Especially now that were keeping those that can afford it and can’t get their heads around the fact that death is an inevitability alive, and in many cases a longed for release from the torture that can be life. Brings up the related issue – and one that is just as important, maybe even more so – what can we do with all us extras who would be happy to pull the pin .. say now .. before they get to that ripe old age, which gets legislated even riper, and have to bear torture in order to keep the youth from dealing with – now, today – an issue that everyone’s going to deal with sooner or later. Like it or not. Sure, we’ve got this Trans-human thing being bandied about, but it’s not for everyone … And it’s going to create more problems for a future that can’t manage to deal with the future today.
This euthanasia thing sounds good. Sounds good. Sounds like a euphemism, which I suppose it’s supposed to. I think if were going to give kids the vote – and this, as I’ve said before, I think is a pretty good idea, then why can’t we open up this euthanasia thing to those of us who are happy with what we’ve done already and then our unclaimed super-annuation can go to those oldies, and the sick ones, who really need it for one reason or other. This has to be a win win situation.
We start to lower the unfettered human population explosion from all ends. Old humans die ’cause their old, sick humans die because there isn’t enough moolah in the system to make them better, we stop paying humans to have kids – which will lessen the explosion at the end that really matters – and us extras get to go when we want. More cash for everyone, more food, air and water. Give the earth a bit of breathing space so to say. Or we can just wait …
Waiting seems easier .. for a while anyway.
