Build my Burnin’ Ladder.. make my Journey Sadder,
..save me from your Mansions in the Sky!
Early this morning I had to watch a group of Yellow Throat Miners tear apart a Grey Crowned Babbler… terrible things to have to watch. Yesterday evening I’d noticed a lone Grey Crown skipping through a tree beside my camp. They are rare and they are rarely alone. He was mewing plaintively, there were other Grey Crowns about but they appear to have excluded him. The birds are pairing now so males are in excess – too many extras. Such is life.
Anyway he got through the night but as soon as he was up this am the Miners assaulted him.. & I had to watch, I could not interfere. Such is life… And such a great reminder of man’s inhumanity to man.
It wasnt all fun and games though. I miss my mornings more than anything else, anything else. Today I had my first up down up down early morning for a while. 1:10, 3:52, 4:15:, 4:34, 5.24.. was never going back to sleep from there. Its a poor thing this Reynauds, cant use the pad, cant use the pen, cant go for a walk. Today I turned the radio on which is something I wouldnt usually do. I dont like extraneous influences in my solo early mornings. It used to be work time. Either my home work or get on ya bike and get to work time. Now its nothing time. Limbo. Anyway the radio had a discussion on suicide/mental health etc etc… Why they put this sort of rubbish on at this time of the morning I have no idea. They must know that there are so many people out there for whom this sort of talk – this obviously fallacious hope through misguided conscience & religion – makes them want to shoot themselves immediately. Of course, shooting the radio host is probably the first thing that comes to mind but then that would be against the law.
These are important topics but they shouldnt be pushed into the early hours of the mornings. This is Prime Time discussion – over the dinner table. If you’re seriously trying to help those with suicidal thoughts then perhaps some informative nature programmes would be better, old Goon Show re-runs, or a quizz. These would be good for an early morning person to have to listen to when the last thing he wants is an early morning! NOT some quasi religious, neoliberal humanitarians telling us just how wonderful the world really is.
Please, we have to fight through your rose gold guilded optimism every day. Spare us a bit and at least programme something with some intelligence and beauty into the wee small hours and keep your guilt for dinner time.
Yes yes .. I know I know I’m harping on about radio and ABC Radio at that. I can hear you all, all of you unfortunate enough to have stumbled onto these diatribes, shouting, “use the internet Mitch, durr.. you can listen to whatever you want to whenever you want. You can watch Geordy Shore!” But I’m not in a city & I’m in Australia, Internet is only intermittently available and now with Telstra’s Corporate 28 day month data’s only intermittently available. The radios a right. You know, like a phone for a teenager.
